Why our ultrasound sessions start at 8 weeks
We scan abdominally, never internally. Before about 8 weeks, an abdominal scan often can't show much of what families are hoping to see, so we book ultrasound sessions from 8 weeks onward. This 8-week minimum applies to ultrasound imaging only. Your prenatal provider schedules any scans your medical care needs, whenever they need them.

The 3D/HD sweet spot: 26–32 weeks
In our studio's experience, the loveliest 3D and HD face pictures usually happen between 26 and 32 weeks. By then, baby has developed those sweet round cheeks, but still has enough room to stretch, turn, and show off. This is studio guidance for keepsake images, not a medical recommendation: your healthcare provider schedules any scans your care actually needs.
Earlier than 26 weeks, features are still filling out; later than about 32 weeks, baby can be snuggled too tightly against the uterine wall (or their own arms) to show their face. Beautiful images are often still possible outside this window, it always depends on baby's position and other factors, and no specific image can ever be guaranteed. If your baby's position keeps us from capturing clear images of their face during your eligible 3D/4D session, you'll receive one complimentary return visit.
