ID & insurance cardKeep them in an easy-to-reach pocket; you'll need them at check-in.
Birth plan copiesnice to haveA few printed copies, if you have one. It's okay if you don't.
Comfortable robeDark colors hide a lot. Front-opening is easiest.
Non-slip socks or slippersHospital floors are cold and slick.
Toiletries bagToothbrush, lip balm, hair ties, face wipes, deodorant, your own shampoo.
Phone charger with a long cableOutlets are never where you want them. 6–10 ft saves the day.
Going-home outfitSomething loose and soft, think roughly 6-months-pregnant sizing.
Nursing bras or soft bralettes2–3, wireless and stretchy.
Comfy high-waisted underwearThe hospital's mesh ones are great too, take extras home.
Your own pillownice to haveIn a colored pillowcase so it doesn't blend in with hospital linens.
Glasses & contact suppliesnice to haveEven if you usually wear contacts, glasses are easier here.
Big water bottle with a strawYou'll be thirstier than you expect, often while lying down.

Car seat installed!Do this before the bag goes in the car. Many fire stations and certified techs will check your install for free.
Going-home outfit in 2 sizesNewborn and 0–3 months, babies rarely read the size chart.
Swaddle blanket or twoThe hospital has some, but yours is nicer for photos.
Hat & mittensThe little scratch mittens save tiny faces from tiny nails.
A few pairs of baby socksnice to have
Warm blanket for the ride homeTucked over the buckled harness, never under it.
A couple of burp clothsnice to have

Snacks, lots of snacksGranola bars, trail mix, anything that survives a duffel bag. Hospital vending gets old fast.
Change of clothesPlan for at least one overnight.
Basic toiletriesToothbrush, deodorant, phone charger of their own.
EntertainmentDownloaded shows, a book, headphones, labor has slow stretches.
